Accounting major in new SOL list but difficult to find a job after graduate

News from Australian web, although accounting is kept in the "skilled occupation list" (SOL) of next fiscal year announced by Australian Federal Government, but the pressures of Australian graduates of accounting major are not released. Especially when the local graduate can not find a job, the unemployment problem has deeply shaken those oversea students who has spent high tuition to fullfuill their Australian dream.

On the latest "2014 Chartered Accountant Employment Guide", it has shown the difficulties of seeking an accounting job in Australia for those oversea graduate. The report also pointed out that among 55 accounting institutions in New South Wales, only one accepted accounting graduate from oversea.

Before that, senator of the oppossition party Kelvin Thomson has appealed many times that the Federal government should remove accountant from the immigration occupational list. He claimed:" Owing to the ignorance of retaining accountant in SOL, many oversea students were being baited with a promising job and permanent residence card and go to Australia, which turned out to be deviate from the fact. "

He further added," I think SOL should encourage the students that there are lots of job opportunies after they graduated, but the fact is that for the accounting graduate students, no matter a local one or those from oversea, it is difficult to be employed after their graduation from accounting major."

Adalat Jurat, a 25-year-old Chinese graduate has a personal experience on that. As we acknowledged she is living in Newcastle,Australia with her husband and two kids, it took her AUD35,000 to get an accounting degree in Holmesglen, another AUD20,000 for the same major in Newcastel University(honours year, equals to a four year university diploma in China, which only applies to those good students with a promising career after their graduation). But according to Jurat, it is still difficult to find an accounting job as a starter in Australia.

Jurat also said:" In order to work in a legal Australian accounting firm, I had spent nearly AUD500 to get my occupational technique eveluated in CPA Australia. But I was sad to find that many jobs are only opened to candidates with permenent residence card." She then added," Even for a junior accountant, job experiences are required, but how is that possible to get that kind of experiences before they can get a job?"

Jurat said she is planning to spent another AUD10,000 to take part in the professional year project and hoping that it will get her resume enlighted.
