United Kingdom is situated at the northwest of Europe, made with England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Britain is a constitutional monarchy lying on Great Britain Island by the west of Europe. The area is 244,820 square kilometers, with the population of 63 million (2011).
UK has temperate zone marine climate, with warm temperature all over the year, and there’s not much difference between winter and summer. There are more mountains and highlands on the northwest, and more flatlands on southeast. The Thames river is the biggest river in UK. It is affected by west wind and ocean, the temperature is warm all over the year, which is quite suitable for the growth of the plants. UK has lots of coal, natural gas and petrol reserve, the main energy production is 10% of GDP, which is quite high in industrial countries.
As an important economic entity, strong economy country and financial center, UK has become the largest overseas investment country for 2 years. Private enterprise is the main entity of UK’s economics, it is the 6th largest economic system, also it is the richest, highly developed and high living condition country. The capital London is the biggest port in UK, also it is the biggest city of Europe. It is the top international city and one of the most prosperous cities of the world. London is always the biggest financial center of Europe, becoming the biggest financial center with New York.
The education, academic research and scientific research of UK is at the leading place of the world. UK has two famous universities: the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford, is the most important education place apart from the USA. Every year UK has attracted many students from all over the world to study here, which brings quite a lot foreign currency to the country, also it brings intelligent people to this country. UK is a powerful country in politics, economics, military, technology and culture etc., the British people have high living standard, it’s one of the richest, highly developed countries of the world. The UK’s economics is at the 5th place of the world. The temperature is warm and wet, with not much difference between each season, which is quite suitable for living and the growth of the plant.
The British flag is like a square, with the length-to-height proportions of 2:1, which is being called the “union jack”. It was made up with dark blue bottom color and red, white colors. It consists of red cross of Saint George (patron saint of England), superimposed on the Saltire of Saint Andrew (patron saint of Scotland), which is superimposed on the red cross of St Patrick (patron saint of Ireland). The flag was designed in 1801, consisting of red cross of England, white cross of Scotland and red cross of Northern Ireland. The flag of Wales was not included in the British flag, which is half green half white with a red dragon.
National emblem
The British national emblem also called British King emblem. The middle of the picture is a coat of arms, on the top left and bottom right there are three golden lions on the red foundation, represents England; on the top right there is a half standing red lion on the golden foundation, represents Scotland; on the bottom left there is a golden harp on the blue foundation, represents Northern Ireland. On the side of the coat of arms, there is a lion with a crown representing England and an unicorn representing Scotland. Around the coat of arms there is a proverb in French, means “evil will be rewarded with evil”; on the bottom there is order of garter, written as “the sky has god and I have rights”. On the top of the coat of arms there are lions with gold and silver helmet, imperial helmet and with crown.
